Abstract

The roller has a hard, dimensionally stable patterned surface (I) on a deformable elastic substrate (II) on a hard metal shaft (III). Pref. (I) consists of cured polyurethane, is 101.6-304.8 esp. 127.0-177.8 mu m thick and has a regular hollow embossed pattern whilst (II) is an elastomer with a Shore A hardness of 50-90 esp. 70 and is 0.127-2.54 cm. thick. Pref. (I) and (II) have a vol. resistivity of 105ohm. cm. The roller is produced by coating (III) with (II) and uncured (I) embossing and curing. The roller dimensions and surface are stable in operation and the roller can be produced more simply than a high quality engraved hard metal roller.
