Abstract

The i.c. engine has coolant channels in the region of the combustion chamber. A pump supplies lubricant under pressure to the friction contact surfaces between moving engine components and eliminates the need for two separate circuits for coolant and lubricant or for two separate pumps. The pump outlet is branched to the channels in the region of the combustion chamber. The lubricant emerging from these channels is fed into a heat exchanger and from there to the pump inlet. The branching arrangement is interrupted by an excess pressure vale which opens when the liquid pressure in the pipe line exceeds a specified valve. The lubricant pipes and the channels are further branched to emerge into the friction areas of the moving engine components.
