Abstract
The novelty is that the dosimeter is mounted on a hollow support which can be located in a recess in a frame carrying the UV lamp; and a filter is located in front of the photomultiplier tube to blockout the UV radiation which has passed through the support and is reflected by the dosimeter. The dosimeter is pref. a sphere with a polished external surface, held by a reflecting mirror in the support which has a side window; the UV light reaching the mirror is reflected towards the glass sphere at 90 degrees to the fluorescence emitted by the sphere via the window and towards the photomultiplier. Alternatively, several photomultiplier tubes may be uniformly distributed at an oblique angle w.r.t. the UV radiation from the lamp. The dosimeter may also have an ovoid or conical shape. After gamma radiation for example, the sphere, made of metaphosphate glass, fluoresces when exposed to UV light, the fluorescence being measured via a photomultiplier tube.
