Abstract

1303514 Testing fastness of materials to radiation ORIGINAL HANAU QUARZLAMPEN GmbH 28 Jan 1970 [28 Jan 1969] 4169/70 Heading G2J The radiation fastness of a material is tested in apparatus comprising a radiation source 12 (e.g. a Xenon lamp) emitting a continuous spectrum, means 20 supporting a sample of material 18 a predetermined distance from the source 12, and filter means 17, 16 or (26) disposed in the radiation path between the source and the sample. The filter 17, 16 or (26) subdivides the spectrum of the radiation source into radiation energy of different wavelengths but equal intensity whereby different portions of the sample are simultaneously irradiated with equal quantities of radiation energy of different wavelengths per unit of time. The filter 16 (26) may be a graded density filter or a plurality of step filters. The filter 16 is used with filter 17 which varies the optical density of filter 16 in the longitudinal direction of sample 18. Preferably the sample 18 is provided with a raster the markings of which are co-ordinated to the spectral transmittance of the interference filter 16 or the absorption properties of step filters (26).
