Abstract
A mercury vapour lamp (1) comprising an ultra violet light source is placed behind a window (2) containing a neutral glass to form a thermal screen. An interference filter (3) with a response in the ultra violet region is mounted after the thermal screen. A screen (4) fluorescent to ultra violet light is mounted obliquely in the instrument box and cuts the ultra violet rays emitted by the lamp. A support (10) in front of the screen holds the glass (9) under test. The effects are observed through the box cover (7). Cooling of the lamp and its coil (5) is provided by a fan (6).
