Abstract

Holes (20) are made through the piston (1) mounted on the shaft (3) of the shock absorber. A spring steel shim cover plate (21) is fitted over the upper face of the piston and covers these holes but does not obstruct the standard transfer ports (11,12). When the damper is extended, the shim covers the additional holes and the normal damper load is obtained. When being compressed, the shim is immediately forced away from the piston and the load is limited even if the speed is too low to operate the normal valves.
