Abstract

An electric lead-acid battery has plates which have increased capacity without decreasing the mechanical properties and increasing the amount of active material. The plates are made of wavy lead alloy sheet (1). The pitch of the waves is between 0.5 and 5mm. The holes (2) in the plate have a diameter between 0.5 and 5mm, and they are staggered along centre-lines (3) parallel to a line perpendicular to the pitch of the waves. The height of the waves is between 0.25 and 2.5 mm. The thickness of the sheet is between 0.2 and 0.8mm. The ratio of holes area to material area is between 20 and 20%. The plates are manufactured to obtain the configuration required. The whole manufacturing process includes a perforation operation followed by a shaping operation and an application of paste onto the sheet.
