Abstract

The refractory lining for mixers, casting ladles, or feed ladles is made from a mixt. of a refractory, siliceous, material, which is capable of expansion, and which contains 5-50 wt.% SiC, 2-30 wt.% Si, ferrosilicn, Si-Ca, Al and/or Cr in powder form, a few percent water and if required clay. The material pref. contains in addn. 1 wt.% (0.05-0.5 wt.%) alkali. The SiO2 content varies from 65 to 98 wt.% and is present as pyrophyllite ore, quartz, or sand. The lining has longer life as the O partial pressure in the pres of the lining has been reduced. Fe oxide is thereby prevented from being formed which usually leads to a breakdown of the lining when Fe is desulphurized.
