Abstract

The electrical motor or generator works in a non-uniform or differential magnetic field. The machine has one or more windings having a rectangular cross-section. The centre of the windings houses a core carrying one or more closed loop ferro-magnetic circuits, normally ferrite or wound strip. The ferro-magnetic annuli are partly overwound by two coils whose centres are diametrically opposed. The layout of the series connected coils is such as to produce a non-uniform field to the extent that the field strengths may be in the ratio of 2:1. The annuli or toroids may be cut or uncut to allow fitting of the windings after which the air gap is re-closed.
