Abstract

In the present method for transferring data between a control unit (SE) connected to a data processing system (DVA) and a data station (DS) containing an input/output unit (EA), each item of received useful information is acknowledged by the data station during the transmission of the useful information from the control unit (SE) to the data station (DS). If it is temporarily not ready for receiving the useful information, it signals this to the control unit. The control unit then outputs instruction words requesting the data station to output the status words until the latter is again ready for receiving useful information. During the transmission of useful information from the data station to the control unit, the control unit continuously sends instructions which request the data station to output useful information. The data station then sends either useful information or status words if there is no useful information.
