Abstract

Ammeters which are clamped around a cable or bus bar in order to measure current flow have arms which open to receive the current conductor then close around it. Economic use of space for conductors renders it more difficult to gain access for current measurement. A clamp with large angular movement of part of the magnetic circuit permits easier access. The magnetic circuits of an ammeter which clamps over a current conductor pivot (7) at the upper end of magnetically isolating arms attached to the handles (4). These magnetic circuits are able to pivot through a large angle between two extreme positions (5, 6). A locking mechanism enables to user to fix the position should this be required.
