Abstract

The device enables the measurement of direct currents by using the fact taht they induce an electromotive force at the terminal of a magnetic circuit with a variable gap which surrounds the conductor in which the current flows. The gap may be changed from 'open' to 'closed' very abruptly currents may be measured while in the second position, very weak currents may be measured. The measurement apparatus, voltmeter or ammeter, may have phosphorescent scale markings and pointer and may be carried on a vehicle as a means of testing the state of its engine.
