Abstract

The rotary i.c. engine has two rotors mounted on a common shaft (1) and connected by differential bevel gears (19, 24, 25) to a common output gear (27). The pistons (5, 8) are rectangular blocks which are attached to each of the rotors (2, 3) and overhang the other rotor (3, 2) and at the same time form a partition in the annular space between the rotors (2, 3) and casing (12). Eccentrics (15, 20) driven by the rotors (2, 3) are connected to hydraulic pistons and arranged so that either rotor can be held stationary whilst the other rotates. This allows alternate compression and expansion to occur between consecutive pistons (5, 8) so that all the phases of the engine's working cycle are carried out.
