Abstract

A method of making veneers, where the wood sheet is in a fragile condition before the adhesive layer is applied, and where the surface must be in a suitable condition for application of varnish for polishing, includes applying a self adhesive layer of paper to one side of the wood sheet. Alternatively, the sheet can be impregnated with a thermosetting resin. In the latter case, the adhesive is applied by a machine with applicator rollers, and the sheets are conveyed through an oven for partial drying. Afterwards, the coated sheets are stacked with separating layers and heated while pressure is applied to allow the adhesive to polymerise completely and impregnate the surface of the wood.
