Abstract

The articles are coated with a Ni cpd. or alloy by chemical deposition. The coated articles are for use as buckles or decoration for clothing, shoes, leather goods, watch straps etc. Used esp. for non-ferrous articles. A uniform surface hardening of the article is achieved which is at least equal to that obtd. by cementation. Polishing with known abrasives produces a mirror-like finish. Non-ferrous metals which can be treated include Al, brass and nickel silver. The treatment also gives an oxidation resistance which is better than that obtd. by electrolytic treatment.
