Abstract

The cooled combustion engine valve is of the type having a hollow valve stem (1), a cooling chamber (14) in the valve disc, and a stationary cooling tube (6) in the stem leaving an annular space (8), the inside (9) of the tune and the space (8) being connected to the inlet and outlet respectively of a cooling circuit. The valve has a first number of horizontal radial ducts (12) parallel to the lower face in the valve disc and connecting with a second number of radial ducts (15) upwardly inclined to the centre. The vertical distance between the inner ends of the ducts (12) and (15) is greater than the valve stroke. The length of the cooling tube (6) is such that its lower end remains between these inner ends during the valve stroke.
