Abstract

The transverse beam is carried on a pillar which maintains it above the deck and allows rocking motion of the base about a hinge point. The pillar is allowed to rotate in the vertical plane. Oscillations in the sideways motion of the beam (9) are damped down by means of the springs (37). The beam carries a trolley which can carry a load lifted from one vessel, travel to the other and lower it on the other deck. The end of the beam has a ball which fits into the socket joint (31) where it is held. The vessels are brought together by drawing a cable from the ball through the socket joint.
