Abstract

The taper nose adaptor (4) holds the milling cutter (5) in the machine spindle nose. The cutter is held in the nose adaptor by a drawbar adaptor (1) which is permanently retained. The drawbar adaptor is a short length of bar, having an annular groove (8) at the drawbar end. The groove has a semicircular cross-section and holds the bar by means of balls (2) inserted through a hole (3) in a matching groove in the taper adaptor. The hole is plugged after all the balls have been inserted. Spanner flats (6) are provided, and a tapped hole (7) for the drawbar. The other end is threaded (9) for the shank of the milling cutter.
