Abstract

A process and plant for improving an energy-producing installation with vapour recycle, which includes a steam generator fed with heat from a basic source, partic. nuclear, and a turbine fed with steam from the generator, incorporate two operating modes. The first consists of taking live steam from the generator, compressing it mechanically and transferring at least a part of the heat to the working fluid. The second consists of transferring heat from an auxiliary fluid to the working fluid. The auxiliary fluid is heated by an independent source, separate from the basic source. The combination of the two modes results in the superheating of the working fluid before it goes to the turbine and between the two stages of the turbine. The auxiliary fluid may be steam, and the heating may be brought about by a heat accumulator supplied with heat from a fossil combustible or an electrical resistance. The invention combines the two known methods of superheating the steam produced at relatively low pressures from vapour-recycle energy-producing systems, partic. nuclear stations. It therefore takes advantage of the benefits of both methods.
