Abstract

The shoulder strap (3) for a mountaineer's rucksack is partially curved, and distributes vertical loads onto the wearer's shoulders and obviates transverse strap slippage off the shoulder. The strap extends from a stitched part (4) at the top which fasteners over a cross piece on the back of the rucksack, to a narrow strap (8) attached to the bottom. The primary and thicker strap length (3) comprises a straight (6) and a curved length (7). The straight length (6) of 12 centimetres or more extends from the rucksack to tranverse the shoulder area. The curved strap length may be a constant radius. The straps may be used in pairs in which case they curve symmetrically away from each other.
