Abstract

The axle (1) of the train wheels is hollow for lightness and has forged seatings (2, 3) for the wheels and the brake discs. These are lightweight and are secured on the seatings using a two part epoxy resin with the relative dia meters of the seatings and axle hole accurately sized to form a strong fit. The fitting forms a stress free assembly with no danger of the wheel sets moving on the axle and leading to derailment. With separate brake discs some of the strain is removed from the support wheels.
