Abstract

The electrical take-off or lead is specially adapted for connection to superconducting machines. The connection is in three basic parts, an ambient temperature section, a cold and a medium section. The multiple wire cold section conductor enters the system coaxially within an electrically conducting sheath spaced from it by an annular coolant tube, the spacing and an inner insulating layer provide a 10kV isolation. The outer tube is interrupted by a ceramic section isolating it from the medium temperature section. The centre section conductor consists of a multilayer conductor laid over the surface of a 500mm by 100mm diameter helix of a rectangular section coolant tube (22) leading to the final section of a further helix.
