Abstract

The tailgate is connected to two levers (10, 11) which deform as a parallelogram. The lower end of one lever pivots about a rigid gusset (2) which is fixed to the lorry chassis. The other lever is connected to a cam which rotates about a horizontal axis (6) through the gusset. The tailgate rotates about an axis (24) from the vertical closed position to a horizontal position (1) to form a continuous platform with the lorry interior (4). A hydraulically operated piston (8) allows the cam to rotate and the tailgate to descend and rise in a horizontal position providing a powered lifting platform for heavy goods. Lowering from the vertical to horizontal position may be mannual or by auxiliary electric motor.
