Abstract

1296931 Dual refuse compactor SANITARY CONTROLS Inc 21 May 1971 [22 May 1970] 16214/71 Heading B8C A dual compactor assembly, for loading refuse into a pair of containers 12a, 12b having loading apertures 18, comprises a pair of hoppers 30, 32 which are mounted, side-by-side, in a frame 20 and which each have an exit 44, a pair of rams 48 each of which is operated by hydraulic drive means 66, 68 and is mounted for movement through the respective hopper 30 or 32 to drive refuse therein out of its refuse exit 44, coupling means 74, 94 for drawing the containers 12a; 12b to the refuse exits 44 and control means for selectively actuating the hydraulic drive means 66, 68 and the coupling means 74, 94. As shown, the containers 12a, 12b, formed from heavy sheet metal, are mounted upon wheels as shown, and, are fixedly, or detachably, mounted to truck, or trailer bodies, and are each provided with a dumping door 16 having a large loading aperture 18 defined by an encircling flange 19. The latter is adapted to receive the projecting flange 46 around the exit of a hopper 30, or 32 when the container 12a or 12b is coupled to the frame 20. Each ram 48 includes a back support 50, a cover portion 58, and a bracing strut 56, is operated by an hydraulic ram 66, 68, and is mounted, by side guides 62, for horizontal sliding movement in the associated hopper 30, or 32. The coupling means at each side of each hopper 30, 32 comprises an hydraulic cylinder 74, and piston 82, Fig. 4, accommodated in a recess 76, the piston 82 being connected to a sliding shoe 84 having a loop 9 to which one end of a chain 94 is connected. The other end of the chain 94 is adapted to be detachably connected to a loop 98 on the corresponding side of the respective container 12a or, 12b. The hydraulic piston-andcylinder units of the rams 48 and the coupling means 74, 82 are controllable by an hydraulic circuit, Fig. 8, not shown. A dumping platform 38 spans the rear of the hoppers 30, 32. Other coupling means such as screw-jacks may alternatively be used, and the means may be supplemented by conventional auxiliary mechanical lock.
