Abstract

1427444 Container traffic moving containers; rack and pinion jacks H BLANC 10 Jan 1974 [10 Jan 1973] 01239/74 Headings B8Q and B8J A container handling arrangement comprises mobile assemblies 2 securable by lugs 5 to each corner of a container 1. Each assembly comprises an axle 4 on which a bracket 3 is slidable and pivotable and can be held in its lowermost position by a pin 6. A tubular support 8 having a swivelling wheel 9 and a rack bar 14 is slidable in a sleeve 7 on actuation of a worm 13 driven by an electric motor 18 through a speed reducer 17. The operation steps of loading the container into the hold of an aircraft are described. The output shaft 16 of the speed reducer 17, Fig. 2, is offset from the input shaft and is connected to the worm 13 by a coupling sleeve 15. The speed reducer has a clamp 19 securable by a screw 21 to an eccentric bearing 20a of a collar 20 mounted on a rod 22 secured to a skirting 25 so that the speed reducer can be adjusted so as not to rub against the rack bar 14. Control of the motor is through a cable 27 extending from a control panel. Pins 26a, 26b containing a groove 20c allow the collar 20 to be lifted off or held elevated on the rod 22.
