Abstract

Equipment for slotting plastic tubing radially is claimed. Gangs of rotary saws or knives mounted on one or more oscillating axles cut into the pipe surface externally. The pipe is advanced in stages between cuts. The pipe may be rotated to accept circumferentially spaced cuts if the saws do not converge along sufficient radii during each cut. Used for mfr. of ground drainage pipe etc. Gang saws offer higher throughput rates than use of single saws. Use of automate convergent saws or automated pipe rolling is more efficient and reproducible than manual rolling to stagger slots circumferentially. The saw shaft cradle allows simple interchange of different patterns and spacings of saw blades.
