Abstract

The machine for cutting screw threads on rods, is largely automatic and uses three inclineably adjustable rotating drum cutters (8) to both effect the cut and advance the workpiece (60). The drums have circumferential ribs and locate uniformly distributed and equi-distant from the longitudinal work piece axis. In addition the machine is equipped to feed the workpiece in alignment to the cutters, and with a reception tube for finished workpieces. Cutter ribs may be formed by successive circumferential grooves; the drum surface may be convex with the groove circumference increasing with the drum dia; and the drums may be mounted on axles (10) which are adjustable both for axial and angular station and locate in fixed supports (6). A tube may be used to guide the workpiece towards the cutters; and the drive may be transmitted to the drums by propshafts (22) with double universal jointing (24, 26).
