Abstract

1431257 Guiding and supporting bar stock HAGENUK 20 Jan 1975 [24 Jan 1974] 2296/75 Heading B3T In a machine tool such as a lathe having a rotary work spindle 7 a guide device is provided for centring and guiding rotating bar stock whilst being machined in the lathe. The guide device comprises a rotor member 2 which surrounds the bar stock and is coaxial with the spindle and is driven in synchronism therewith, at least two two-armed pivotable levers 5 carried by the rotor 2 and disposed symmetrically relative to the rotor axis each of which having a roller 12 at one end which is engageable with the bar stock 13 to centralize and support it and reduce vibration during the machining operation. The rollers engage the periphery of the bar by virtue of the centrifugal action produced by the other end of the levers as they pivot about pins 6.
