Abstract

The catalytic radiator has a safety system which ensures that the gas supply is cut off when the combustion products are excessive or when the panel temperature is too low for complete combustion. The safety system includes a conductive metal sheet (11) of e.g. copper, against the heating panel (1) with a thermococycle (4) acting as a temperature monitor and an atmosphere controller (5) with its flame (12) impinging on the sheet. The combined effect of the flame (5) and the radiant heat from the panel (1) are sufficient to obtain a signal to keep the gas supply valve (6) open, which is electromagnetically operated, but when only one is operating, the valve closes and shuts off the gas supply.
