Abstract
Static electricity discharges are more efficient when operating in a high speed flow of blown gas. In the case of a jet propelled aircraft, air is bled off from the last stage of the engine compressor, whence gases blown over the discharger may attain speeds of Mach 3 or 4. The discharger (10) is suitably connected to the aircraft structure (12) and has a point or tuft of wires (14) which are connected electrically to the structure. There is a pipe (16) which opens at one end onto a tuft (14), and the other end it is connected to a source of h igh pressure gas which blows a jet (20) at high speed over the tuft. A laval nozzle (22) accelerates the air flow from subsonic to supersonic.
