Abstract

A horizontal cylinder grape press., having radial vanes which retract inside the cylinder with a spiral inlet and a tangential outlet, and with a preliminary pressing system at the top with a reciprocating member synchronised with the drum rotation, has a drive for the drum consisting of a ratchet wheel with hook shaped ratchet teeth, operated by the piston rod of a double acting cylinder mounted to pivot about bearings near the piston rod and of the cylinder housing which is driven by a pump controlled by an electric motor or combustion engine. This drive replaces the original gearing arrangement. Each stroke of the piston causes a rotatory movement to step the blades round by one blade pitch.
