Abstract

A turning cock valve has a spherical cock (4) turning about axis (y1) and sealing devices (5, 6). The cock has a pivot and an operating key (8) and has a bore (9) of the same dia. as the pipes with which it is continuous when the cock is open. Each sealing device has a seat (12, 13) with a seal (14, 15). Behind the seat is a piston (16, 17) and elastic washers (18, 19) are located between the piston and the seat. Between the piston and the seat holder (20) is a space (22) in which the seat (12) and piston (16) may slide. Space (22) can be connected to a source of fluid under pressure. This fluid presses on the piston which transmits the pressure to seat (12), thus compressing the seal.
