Abstract

The composite tensioner consists of a shock absorbing member, and a connected thin fitting body with good abrasion resistance. The pre-fabricated fitting (1) is positioned in a mould, and a support member (2), consisting of a plastics with high friction characteristics, is inserted into it. An elastomer is injected into the mould under pressure to form the shock absorber (3), and also an adhesion between the support and the inner surface of the fitting. Adhesive may be applied to support and/or fitting, before the injection of the plastics. Fitting and shock absorber are cylindrical, and the centre of the shock absorber accommodates the end of a spring member. The fitting surrounds the shock absorber up to this point and the chain to be tensioned is guided along a generatrix on the surface of the fitting.
