Abstract

Plastic furniture panels may be easily and quickly dismantled for transport and reassembled in a new location. Tenons (2) project at an angle (usually a right angle) from the edge of one panel (1) and have transverse slots (3) cut in them. These tennons fit in mortises (5) cut in the edges of the adjacent panel (4). Slots (6) are cut at right angles to the mortises in such a position that they line up with the slots in the tenons when assembled. Finally T-section keys (7) are pushed through the slots to lock the panels together. The keys may be retained by friction, or may have a slightly trapezoidal section to cause elastic deformation of the slots. The flanges of the T's may be used for extraction and may also form part of the decoration.
