Abstract

The rail carriage doorstep is usable with platforms of different heights, and first moves outwards sideways from the carriage and then vertically downwards to the desired height before the door is opened. It is raised and retracted before the door is shut again. The door can be arranged to move horizontally with the step, and then to stay clear of it during the vertical movement. The door can slide sideways outside the coachwork. The step can move up and down in guides equipped with stops to halt it at the desired height, a mechanism being provided to ensure door and step operation in the correct sequence.
