Abstract

Sealing ring has a resilient lip for engaging a slide surface, wherein the lip is made of at least two layers of material of which the layer (6) facing the slide surface (8) has a greater coefft. of thermal expansion than the layer or layers (4) remote from said surface. The lip is supported in relation to the surface by a ring secured e.g. to a shaft (2). Should the temperature of the seal rise unduly e.g. by lack of lubrication, the unequal expansion of the layers results in a reduction of seal pressure and the possibility of damage to the seal seal is reduced.
