Abstract

Phenol-amine-resins of formula (I) and a method for their prepn. are claimed: (where X is nothing or of formula (II): m and n are 1-20 and R is a 5-12C alkyl, phenylethyl, cumyl, hydroxyaralalkyl or carboxyl group when X is nothing and a 1-12C alkyl, phenylethyl, cumyl, hydroxyarylalkyl or carboxyl group when X is (II)). The resins are the condensation products of hexamethylene-thiamine with alkylphenols with 5-12C in the alkyl group, phenol alkylated with styrene, cumylphenol, diphenylolpropane and hydroxybenzoic acid. The resins are highly soluble in hydrocarbon solvents, compatible with rubbers and possess a heat-ageing stabilising effect when used in rubber (vulcanisate). They may be used in lacquers, electrical insulation and in the prodn. of glass fibre reinforced plastics.
