Abstract

Mattresses or bed bases which can be dismantled are assembled from two or more mouldings made of cellular plastics material and linked by mortice/tenon joints. The mouldings feature pockets linked by air passages and covered with cloth covers. The assembled mattress is contained in a removeable shroud having suitable fastenings. The mattress may be dismantled to components of reduced size and weight to facilitate movement and/or reduce risk of injury. Pref. the mattress is assembled from two or four mouldings made of expanded or foamed plastics material of density 10-100 g/litre, spec. of expanded polystyrene or a rigid or flexible polyether, pref. a self-extinguishing composition.
