Abstract

The novel water-sol. polyazo (derived from 2-(4'-amino-phenyl)-5-amino-benzimidazole) are of formula (I): (where A1 and A4 are the radicals of benzenic, naphthalenic, heterocyclic or aliphatic cpds. A1H and A4H, A2 and A3 are the radicals of benzenic or naphthalenic cpds. H-A2-H are H-A3-H, at least one of A1-A4 carries at least one slphonic or carboxylic acid gp. the dyestuff molecule contg. 1-5 sulphonic acid gps. and 0-2 carboxylic acid gps. carried by one or more of A1-A4, the same radical A1-A4 carries 0-2 sulphonic acid gps. 0-1 carboxylic acid gps. and at most one sulphonic acid gp. and one carboxylic acid gp. X is H, Cl, or alkyl, m and n are 0,1 or 2, at least one of m and n is 1 or 2, and the heterocyclic cpds. and pref. derived from 1-phenyl-5-pyrazolone) together with their metal complexes pref. with Cu,Ni,Co or Cr. As yellow, orange, red brown, blue and violet dyes for differently tanned leathers and polyamides, but having low affinity for wool. Dyeings are fast and uniform, and in the case of leather, they are fast to dry cleaning.
