Abstract
The heterogeneous petrol/air mixture emerging from the carburettor is delivered into a closed centrifugal cyclone (1). Here the droplets vapourise during the centrifugal motion, after which the gaseous mixture is delivered to the engine combustion chamber. Vapourisation can be partly induced by heating the cyclone walls, the unvapourised droplets being delivered to a vapouriser or back to the petrol tank before reintroduction into the mixing system. The cyclone walls can be heated to between 100 and 250 deg. C, to give complete droplet vapourisation.
