Abstract

Elevator-cooler for dry foundry sand, employing a column up which the sand flows and then passes into a hopper from which it can be removed, the column being provided with a sleeve for the circulation of a coolant, and with a fluidising nozzle, supplied with a compressed gas, in the lower part of the column. The novelty is that the lower end of the column, and the nozzle, are located in a tank, the top of the tank possessing a hot-sand inlet which can be hermetically closed by a valve after a predetermined amt. of hot sand has been fed through the inlet, and inlets for compressed gas, conveying the sand, are also provided in the tank. A sand level detector pref. operates the sand inlet valve in the tank. Normally, sand flows down one column for cooling and is then lifted by an elevator into a hopper. The combined system employed in the invention results in a substantial redn. in the amt. of energy required.
