Abstract
The rotational movement is obtained directly from the movement of an armature attracted by an electro-magnet which is automatically switched to provide the rate of movement required. The armature is in the form of a rectangular soft iron plate, carried on a lever pivoted at one side of the electro-magnet, the soft iron being placed such that it completes the magnetic flux path. Energizing the electro-magnet pulls the armature towards it, the attached lever magnifying the movement and transmitting it via a further pivot to an offset attachment point on the driven disc. The return force is provided by a spring or by a further electro-magnet.
