Abstract

This fibre-optic telemetry unit has a semiconductor crystal (1) sealed in a light-proof housing. The crystal has an active area (2) that either provides light energy or is sensitive to light. Electrical connection (3) is made to a ring surrounding the active area. The optical-fibre connection (20) is in contact with the active area. The fibre section is chosen to determine the solid angle of view of the crystal, and the free end of the optical-fibre connection can be at the focal point of an optical system. The effects of the parasitic zones in the semiconductor are small.
