Abstract

The clamp converts in a simple fashion into a strut or screw-jack and has two jaws (3, 4) on arms projecting normally from a straight length of bar (1). One of the jaw arms is fixed to the bar, and the other slides on it and is reversible to effect the change of function. The fixed jaw arm bears jaws or thrust pads in hammer head form, and the sliding jaw arm bears a undirectional jaw (5') moved w.r.t. its support arm by a screw-jack mechanism. The inclination of the sliding jaw arm to the bar (1) deviates somewhat from 90 deg. so that application of thrust by the screw-jack effects wedge locking of this jaw arm on the bar (1). To reverse the sliding jaw (4) it is simply slid off the bar (1) and replaced facing the opposite way.
