Abstract
Jewellery etc., wtih decorative coating layers consists of a carbide-contg. hard metal foundation and one or more superimposed hard matl. cover layers of total thickness 1-50 mu having intrinsic colours ranging through the entire colour spectrum. Prods. may be in the form of clock-cases cuff-links and studs, tie pins, rings, bracelets, ear-rings or necklase components. Requirements w.r.t. scratch-proofness and compressive strength, corrosion-resistance and colour-stability are fulfilled. Specif., the hard matl. cover layers may be carbides, nitrides, carbonitrides and/or borides, of Ti, Hf, Zr, V, Nb, Ta, W, La, Ce and/or Gd, e.g. Ti nitride (yellow), Ti carbonitrie (red-gold to red to violet), LaB6 (violet), LaB12 (blue-green), LaN and CeN (black).
