Abstract

Smoke tube boiler for central heating comprises, mounted behind the smoke tube openings, an auxiliary vessel which communicates with the boiler and which is swept by flames occurring at the smoke tube openings due to post-combustion. The vessel pref. comprises a superheater surrounded by a casing which adjoins the boiler wall and which is connected to the outlet. The dimensions of the vessel and casing combined are such that optimum use is made of the heat output of the frames and sufficient space is provided for release of combustion gases. The auxiliary vessel may have the shape of a biconvex flattened balloon. Air supply to the boiler firing system may be adjusted to provide blue flames.
