Abstract

The water turbine utilises the energy in the current of a rive without the need for any damming. The turbine comprises a set of blades fixed to a horizontal shaft passing through two floats. These are accommodated inside two rectangular-section vertical concrete caissons which are fixed to the river bed and which allow free entry and exit of water. The volume of the floats is calculated in accordance with Archimedean principles, and they keep the turbine shaft at a constant height above the water level. The drive is transmitted via a telescopic shaft to a generator. The shaft runs in ball bearings in the floats.
