Abstract
Digital device automatically controls the carbon content of a metal starting from the temp. plateaux on its cooling curve. A converter is used which converts a temp. input signal into a number of pulses. The converter has two outlets for pulse codes representing positive- and negative- increments of temp., the outlets being connected to a two-way counter converting the pulse signals into a parallel code. The electronic circuit includes a timer and a time discriminator, and the two-way counter feeds the bits to a register which memorises the pulse codes representative of the temp. plateaux on the cooling curve; and the register feeds a digital display device. It is used, for example, the computer control of steel making, using digital devices for automatic control of carbon by determining the liquidus temp. on a cooling curve.
