Abstract

Method of assaying thyroid hormone in blood samples in which the sample is mixed with pepsin at pH 1, it is incubated at a suitable temp. for sufficient time to digest the protein attached to the thyroid hormone, the pH is adjusted to a value at which pepsin is inactive, then assaying the liberated thyroid hormone. Elimination of serum and plasma proteins, which bind the hormone, was only partially successful by earlier techniques. After pepsin digestion, the thyroid hormone is completely liberated.
