Abstract

The socket for tubular fluorescent lamps, provides compensation for difference in tube length due to variation within normal tolerances, without increasing the overall size of the socket itself. The socket is circular and is provided with a location slot within its outer shell. Leaf spring electrical contacts are arranged symmetrically about the socket centre leading to power connection lugs at the socket base which are trapped in a support plate. Variations in length are taken up by a contact support structure moving lengthways with respect to the shell of the socket. Some degree of 'rocking' is allowed for in the design while the tube is maintained centrally.
